The Dawning Realism:
7-9 years old
At this stage in artistic development, children begin to compare their work and become more critical of it. It has become evident that a structured order to drawing objects is no longer suffices to express reality. Space is discovered and depicted with overlapping objects in drawings and a horizon line rather than a base line. Children try for more detail, hoping to achieve greater realism in their art work.
